1914 did not bring the end they were hoping for so new light shone down from above and corrected their understanding.. 1925 also led to unfulfilled expectations and so new light was bestowed.. .
(i could go through all the dates and expectations... but i won't.).
what if the new light about 1914 being the year that christ returned was provided before 1914?
Another example would be the 'noo lite' that they didn't really have the guff on marriage for the resurrected and the old light was just speculating, which we shouldn't do, even though they did that in the past, but it wasn't speculating because it was The Truth and they were guided by Holy spirit, and the Faithful & Discreet Slave aren't doing that now, even though they are/aren't/were/weren't//was/wasn't/is/isn't .......
Confused????
Just believe ........
........ die forever if you don't
nice guy i worked with him for about a year.
he is mormon but every time we were in a place to talk he brought up religion, cult thinking.... he needs to come clean i think.... ripe for the vine of non cult thinking but not an ex-jw so i don't have the upper hand?
is there a coc for mormons?
I talk about my experiences with my father's church, which enables me to bring up tactics that I want them to use on me when they are cornered. After they tell me that those tactics are wrong, I ask questions that corral them into doing what they just agreed was wrong, then ask them to explain why they just tried to scam me with a tactic they don't agree with.
Rinse and repeat.
of all of the watchtower's many publications dating now to all the way back to russell, which one publication is the most damning in showing they are a complete crachpot of a religion?
and i course, i mean which original publication before they changed a few words and reprinted!.
personally, i think it is probably russell's the divine plan of the ages.
The article, "What is Truth?" in the first edition of the WT
i guess i am just venting.
its a mess.
i just dont even know where to start with this crap.
Don't tell him anything that he doesn't, or shouldn't, already know from WT literature.
Be the one to ask the questions.
Insist that he answers them.
Don't answer his, he is usually just trying to change the subject.
Give him a guilt trip for every trick he tries to use to change the subject or weasel his way out of confronting the question.
Give him a guilt trip for any tactic he ties to use to bully you into excepting no answer, or a nonsense answer.
... and let your kid hear it all ...
talking with a long time elder last night, was very revealing.
he has been a jw for over 60 years, a man that was incarcerated in cuba in his early 20s and faced great loss and suffering over his beliefs and for being born in a communist country.
this brave man is now brittle and low-spirited.. while nightfalls on his life, he is made aware the end is near.
They stuck around after the WT's failures because they didn't have the cajones to admit they had been made fools of.
Did you listen to the interviews with Harold Camping's followers after the rapture never arrived? Same logic, different cult. Followers so wanting not to admit they had been stupid in giving their life's saving to a loser, that they still maintained that Camping had some kind of Devinely inspired purpose and still were not prepared to abandon him.
i had a really fun day today.
i went to town on first call to witness to the jws on the trolley outside the main train station in the city.
i had prepared two different presentations depending on whether or not the jws knew me.. if they knew me i planned to tell them how unjust my last jc was and that i didn't believe jehovah cared about me or anyone, and if they didin't know me i would just question them about their disfellowshipping policy.
Even if the Dub doesn't 'get it' it a great anti-witness. You already saw that. I bet your friend won't be in a hurry to sign up with The Nutter's Club.

Can you take a friend with you when you do a 'return visit'?
If a JW is going to sound like a fanatical cult member, they need to know that they are doing it with an audience so that they will think about what they said while they try to get to sleep at night.
i have had 3 sessions of what is most likely being tracked as a "bible study" with an elderette who is from the kh we stopped attending about 3-4 years ago.. after last week's visit and bible verse study, she asked me if she should return.
i had expressed concerns that she was a heretic, and i had a friend who had warned me not to let her into my house.
i told her i had to think about whether i wanted to study the bible teach book with her.
I'm waiting for 'backcalls' from Mormons and JWs who have both made promises to answer my questions.
I'm assuming that they have had busy weeks. Actually, it's turning into months now. Maybe time goes fast when you're having fun. They still have time to visit the prospective recruits over the road from me.

I've watched them die.
It's all about not admittiing that they made a mistake by following a particular religious leader in their youth. The more failures their religious leader had before they joined, the more important it is that they don't admit those failures to you, or themselves.
